A floating chuck comprises a tool-holding socket 4 carrying a plate 5 housed in a chuck body 2 between a ball-race 6 and an annular series of balls 7 held in a parallel floating plate 8 which is notched to receive rollers 12 on pins 13 carried alternately by the socket plate 5 and the chuck body. The balls 6 are centred by a coiled spring 14 and are engaged by a plate 15 urged rearwardly by an elastic member 16. A coned ring 18 can be screwed into the body to limit the freedom of movement of the socket. |
