PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester fiber for a marine rope, excellent in durability in water and having economical cost. SOLUTION: Provided is a polyester fiber for a marine rope, in which strength is 8 cN/dtex or more, an elongation is 10% to 20%, a fiber-to-fiber friction coefficient (F/Fμdry) in a dry state is in the range of 0.24 to 0.28, and the difference between the fiber-to-fiber friction coefficient (F/Fμdry) in a dry state and a fiber-to-fiber friction coefficient (F/Fμwet) in a wet state is within 0.035. It is preferable that the polyester fiber has a specific gravity of 1.0 to 1.4, that the polyester fiber is a polyethylene terephthalate fiber, that the amount of an oil solution attached to a surface of the fiber is 0.3 to 1.0 wt.%, and that a dropping rate of the oil solution after being washed by water is 40% or less.
