A system for emulating an over-the-air channel for communicating with a device under test (DUT) 142 is provided. The system comprises an anechoic chamber 100 having NA downlink probes 102-116 for providing downlink signals to the DUT and NB uplink probes 118-124 for receiving uplink signals transmitted from the DUT. In a preferred embodiment, the number of downlink probes is greater than the number of uplink probes. The system includes a downlink fading emulator 136 to model the downlink channel between an emulated base station 134 and the device under test, and an uplink fading emulator 138. The downlink fading emulator is characterized by downlink impulse responses, and the uplink fading emulator is characterized by uplink impulse responses. NA downlink impulse responses are divided into NB subsets and NB uplink impulse responses are defined in terms of respective subsets of uplink impulse responses, and a set of complex sequences. For example, the uplink impulse responses may be defined using the equations of claims 7 and 8. In an alternative embodiment the number of uplink probes may be greater than the number of downlink probes and the downlink impulse responses are define in terms of uplink impulse responses. |
