A railway signal 50 is aligned (e.g. rotated or levelled) relative to a base portion of its support by means located between the signalling unit and base. The signal may include a signalling unit 52 mounted on a support comprising a post 60 and a base portion 62 and include an enclosure 66 for signal controls attached to the base. The signalling unit may be fixed relative to the post. The alignment means may be a rotatable plate (22, Fig.7a) attached to signal box (102, Fig.7a) and comprising arc-shaped apertures which engage with elogate bolts 70 in concrete foundations 72 and act as guide paths such that the plate, post and signal are constrained to turn in a limited range of orientations. Thus the signalling unit may be aligned so as to be visible from a train without moving the base portion.
|
