<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a desulfurizer which can be replaced without stopping the operation of a fuel cell, and to provide a fuel cell system provided with the same. <P>SOLUTION: The desulfurizer 6 is interposed at a position which is in the middle of a fuel gas supply passage 3 and in the outside of a housing 2 of the fuel cell system. A desulfurizing agent cartridge 9 is fitted and loaded into a cylindrical storage part 61 having openings 611 and 612 at both ends, for example, from the bottom upward. Sealing parts 92, 93 and 94 are brought into close contact with an inner peripheral surface 610 for sealing. A fuel gas from a communication opening 613 is allowed to flow into a desulfurizing agent S in a container body 61 through a vent hole 916, and the fuel gas after desulfurization is allowed to flow out through the vent hole 916 and a communication opening 614.
