The apparatus 2 comprises at least one sensor and a controller 10 adapted to record data provided by the sensor(s). The controller controls a space heating/cooling means 12 to change the temperature of a space 4 in response to at least one data set provided by the sensor(s). The at least one sensor comprises at least one of a temperature sensor 6 or a motion sensor 8. Preferably, the controller comprises a microprocessor 16 and a data recorder 18 and adaptively controls the space heating/cooling means based upon anticipated temperature rise and decay rates obtained from historical temperature measurements and predicted occupancy based upon stored readings from the motion sensor. The controller may activate heating/cooling when a person is detected by the motion sensor or ignore the motion sensor during predetermined times, such as overnight. The apparatus may include a user input 14 whereby if a user selects the maximum or minimum temperature possible, the controller reduces/raises the selected temperature to a predetermined lower/higher temperature. If a user operates the input to raise/lower the temperature more than a predefined number of times during a given time period, the controller may alter the default temperature setting for the space.
|
