In a clutch of the type in which two telescoping clutch members 3 are biased apart when oil under pressure is admitted through shaft ducts 10 to a space 5 to engage V-grooves thereon with co-operating V-grooves on surrounding clutch members 7, clutch disengagement being effected by the release of oil pressure in the space 5 so that oil supplied continuously through shaft ducts 11 to ring-spaced spaces 12 can act to bias the clutch members 3 inwards, traps 16 are provided to collect oil leaking from the spaces 12, the oil then passing through ducts 17 to the outside of the clutch. Controlled lubrication of the friction faces of the V-grooves is effected by oil leaking from the traps 16 through small bores 20, the effective flow therethrough being controlled if desired by grub screws. The inner clutch members 3 may be made from bronze, and the outer clutch members 7 from steel.</p> |
