The present invention relates to an image display device and a method for operating the same. The method for operating the image display device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: displaying 2D content on a screen; converting the 2D content to 3D content if a first gesture input based on a user′s hand exists; and displaying the converted 3D content. Thus, the user′s convenience of use can be improved.
