[Classes 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] [Also in Groups XV, XXIII and XXX] A building block 1, Fig. 1, is provided with screw threaded passages 4, for engagment by screw threaded locking bars, and each passage is formed by a separately constructed tubular member 2 around which the block is moulded, cast or otherwise secured. The members 2 may be metallic, and each is flanged at its ends and may have also a flange intermediate its ends. In a building construction as shown in Fig. 1, the passages 4 are spaced a distance of one quarter the length of the block from each end of a block 1. Each locking bar 6 has a squared upper end to be engaged by a tool by means of which the bars are screwed half in the upper blocks and half in the lower blocks of two adjacent courses. In an alternative building construction as shown in Fig. 10, only the bottom course has screw threaded passages, and all the passages in the upper courses are plain. Each locking bar 62 has a screw threaded lower end 63 which engages a screw threaded passage in the bottom course, a screw threaded upper end 64 engaged by a locking nut 65 in a recess in the top course, and a plain middle portion.</p> |
