The present invention relates to a mobile terminal which is capable of facilitating the use of a mobile terminal with consideration for user convenience, and a method for controlling the same. According to at least one among embodiments of the present invention, it is possible to determine a time point when the position of the mobile terminal changes from an indoor place to an outdoor place and vice versa, and to activate an indoor positioning function based on the determination. Therefore, it is possible to reduce waste of electric power compared to a case where the indoor positioning is always performed. Moreover, a more accurate result of the indoor positioning can be provided.
