Disclosed are a wind power generator and an operating method thereof. The wind power generator according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a rotor including a hub and multiple blades coupled to the hub; a nacelle having the rotor coupled thereto; a tower supporting the nacelle to be able to rotate; a cable of which one end is connected to a first unit arranged inside the nacelle and the other end is connected to a second unit arranged inside the tower; and a detecting member installed on the cable, and detecting tensile strength acting on the cable, wherein the cable includes: a first cable connected to the first unit; a second cable connected to the second unit; and a third cable shaped to be curved, and connected to the first cable and the second cable, and the detecting member is installed on the curved part of the third cable.
