997,419. Rotary I.C. engines. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Aug. 11, 1961 [Sept. 17,1960], No. 29087/61. Heading F1F. In a rotary-piston internal combustion engine of the 2N and 2N+1 lobe type, radial sealing strips are housed in recesses 4 in the stator and are urged against the rotor by spring strips, and each end cover of the stator has curved or straight grooves 10 in which spring-loaded strips 15 are provided to seal the chambers against gas leakage. Lateral fluid-tightness of the engine is obtained by each pair of adjacent strips 15 engaging the sides of a further strip 17 housed in a recess 11 formed in a plug 19 on the flange, and the strips 7 are also pressed against the strips 3 by further spring strips (Fig. 4 not shown). In a modification, (Fig. 8 not shown), the strips 3 directly engage the inner faces of the end covers. In another modification, (Fig 9 not shown), the grooves are extended and open externally of the case, the inoperative portions being sealed by plugs. |
