The method involves determining the load and rotational speed of an internal combustion engine (2) as the operating parameters (16,18) of the engine to store in a map. An intermediate value (26) of the temperature of a combustion chamber (4,6) is determined based on the operational parameters stored in the map. The intermediate value is corrected based on the value of additional operational parameter (31) of the engine. The value of the temperature of the combustion chamber is determined. An independent claim is included for an arrangement for operating internal combustion engine.
