The confocal optical microscope (100) has a light source (14) and an optical resonator (10), which is adapted to receive a sample (17) and acted upon by light. A confocal plane (F) of the optical microscope is located inside the optical resonator. The sample is arranged in the confocal plane. The resonator is formed as a grid resonator. An independent claim is included for a method for performing optical absorption measurements on a sample.
