This sheet glass manufacturing method involves: irradiating a glass ribbon (G) with laser beams (L) along cutting lines (X), which are the boundaries between a product section (G1) that is used as a product, and non-product sections (G2) that are discarded; spraying an assist gas (A) on molten glass (M) that has been melted by the heat of the laser beams (L), and removing the molten glass (M) by scattering, thereby thermally cutting the glass ribbon (G); and then breaking and discarding the non-product section (G2). By spraying the assist gas (A) from the product section (G1) side using the cutting line (X) as a reference, the scattered molten glass (M) is made to adhere to the non-product section (G2) as dross (D).
