<p>The adjuster (3) has a sensor unit (4) for generating a control command to detect a contact of a body part e.g. finger, of a vehicle user. A control unit (5) is connected with the sensor unit and an adjusting unit (6). The control unit releases or locks the adjusting unit for adjustment of a steering column (1) based on the control command of the sensor unit. The adjusting unit is arranged for manual adjustment of the steering column. The sensor unit is integrated into the column and formed with capacitive proximity sensors (40A, 40B) having sensor electrodes (41A, 41B).</p>
