The method involves setting value of mean pressure in high pressure period during compression phase. A cylinder pressure curve is provided during expansion phase, and integration of cylinder pressure curve is performed in accordance with approximation of cylinder pressure curve. The value of mean pressure is formed in high pressure period based on addition of set value of mean pressure in high pressure period and integration of cylinder pressure curve.
