[Solution] Provided is a glass production method characterized by having: a forming step in which a glass ribbon is formed from molten glass by a glass forming means; and a transport step in which the glass ribbon slowly cools to or below the strain point temperature of the glass while being transported by a transport roll, wherein the transport step includes a buffer layer formation step in which a solution containing an inorganic salt is sprayed directly onto at least a portion of the transport roll, whereupon the solution deposited onto the transport roll dries out and forms a buffer layer of the inorganic salt.
