PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing stains on a rear face of paper caused by a non-transferred toner attached to an inter-paper area on an image carrier, while suppressing the occurrence of abnormal images due to vibration caused by collision between a transfer material and paper.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier 10 that is rotatably provided to carry a toner image on the surface thereof; a transfer member 22 that is arranged opposite to the image carrier; and non-transferred toner attaching means for attaching a non-transferred toner that is not transferred to paper to an inter-paper area present on the image carrier during a continuous image formation period to continuously form images. The transfer member is a foam roller. The image forming apparatus further includes contact/separation means 70 for contacting and separating the foam roller with/from the image carrier, and separates the image carrier from the transfer member with the use of the contact/separation means when the inter-paper area present on the image carrier passes through a transfer area in association with the rotation of the image carrier, the transfer area at which the image carrier and the transfer member are arranged opposite to each other. |
