A brake control device is provided with a pilot-type pressure boost device (50). A pilot unit (53) of the pressure boost device (50) is connected to a power fluid pressure generation device (30) via a pilot input passageway (37). The pilot input passageway (37) is fitted with a linear control valve (44FL) that also adjusts the fluid pressure of a wheel cylinder (82FL). A brake ECU (100) checks whether the pressure boost device (50) has normally been activated on the basis of a fluid pressure output from the pressure boost device (50) when the linear control valve (44FL) is energized for activation check. Thus, an activation check of the pressure boost device (50) can be performed without requesting a brake pedal operation by the driver.
