A method for improving intersection traffic throughput capacity comprises the following steps: 1. using a first traffic indicator to indicate to motor vehicles in a second stopping area located behind a second stop line (2) and driving directly towards the intersection individually to stop in lanes located behind said second stop line (2) and provided with directional markings; 2. using a second traffic indicator to indicate to motor vehicles either stopped in a line behind or driving towards the second stop line (2), and only in lanes provided with identical directional markings, to advance in order across said second stop line (2) and to stop in order in a first stopping area located between a first stop line (1) and said second stop line (2); 3. using a third traffic indicator to indicate to motor vehicles originally behind the second stop line (2) and having entered the first stopping area in lanes provided with identical directional markings and waiting to cross the first stop line (1) to advance in order across said first stop line (1), in the directions indicated by the directional markings behind said second stop line (2) and corresponding to vehicles waiting to cross the first stop line (1). The present method is able significantly to improve the efficiency of intersection traffic throughput. |
