Digital-based medical devices

A medical device includes a housing, an imaging system having an electronic imager, an illumination system having at least one light source and an optional display in which the optical system includes a focusing mechanism. In one version, the focusing mechanism includes an optical focusing element such as at least one liquid lens assembly, to enable dynamic focusing and in another version a peripheral device is attached to the housing, the peripheral device having the electronic imager, display and processing logic.
