A variable power optical assembly comprises, in order from the object side, a positive first lens group (G1), a negative second lens group (G2), a positive third lens group (G3), a fourth lens group (G4), a fifth lens group (G5), and a sixth lens group (G6). When the magnification is changed from a wide angle end state to a telephoto end state, the distance between the first lens group (G1) and the second lens group (G2), the distance between the second lens group (G2) and the third lens group (G3), the distance between the third lens group (G3) and the fourth lens group (G4), the distance between the fourth lens group (G4) and the fifth lens group (G5), and the distance between the fifth lens group (G5) and the sixth lens group (G6) change. Prescribed conditional formulae are satisfied. Thus, a variable power optical assembly which has high variable power, is miniaturized, and has high optical performance, as well as an optical device and a variable power optical assembly fabrication method, can be provided. |
