The backup apparatus (1) connects to one end of a rope (12) for guiding the rope whose other end is connected to the climber. The rotatably mounted roller blocks the rope by triggering an eddy current brake, so that the rotatably mounted roller is affected by the magnetic force produced through a magnet (14a) which are arranged at a housing (9) rotatably.
