Abstract A portable lamp comprising a rigid elongate tubular transparent or translucent 5 housing having its longitudinal axis aligned vertically. The housing contains an array of LEDs mounted on an elongate backing strip. The lamp has a stand comprising a base portion and a vertically aligned telescoping post. The housing is supported by an attachment means on the upper end of the post. The electrical connection for supplying power to the LEDs is made through said attachment means.
