摘要 885,552. Machines for making boxes. BELL ENGINEERING (SLOUGH) Ltd. March 28, 1960 [Dec. 31, 1959], No. 44364/59. Class 18. A mechanically driven machine for making boxes from cardboard blanks comprises a folding box 1 and a plunger 2 reciprocated by means of a crank-wheel 5, Fig. 4, a rod 4 and linkage 6, 8. When a blank is in the correct folding position it displaces a bell-crank lever 22 connected by a link 23 to a second bell-crank lever 24, which then trips a clutch and so connects the wheel 5 to the drive, e.g. an electric motor, and starts the folding cycle. Link 6 is rigidly mounted on a rotatably journalled spindle 7 from which depends an arm carrying a roller 10. Thus when the link 6 is displaced by the wheel 5, the spindle 7 rotates and roller 10 displaces a quadrant 11 connected to one of two intermeshing gears 14, each of which is in mesh with pinions 16 mounted at one end of universally jointed spindle 17. During the initial depression of the blank by the plunger, two opposed side walls are erected. Folding arms 3 carried by the spindle 17 are then swung through 180 degrees and erect the end walls, which are twice the height of the side walls. Tongues on the side walls are bent to lie against the end walls and as the plunger starts its upward stroke, the upper parts of the end walls are turned in to overlap the tongues. Pivoted stops 20 holding the box in position are moved aside by a cam on the spindle, as the plunger rises, and the completed box drops into a tray or shoot.
