The crate (10) has a base (16) and a peripheral rim (18) that is provided around the base. The rim has a side wall (20) and a side wall (22) that is provided opposite to the side wall (20). The side walls connect the transverse walls. An upwardly open trough (19) is formed with the base. The side walls are connected to the inner wall. The inner wall angularly extends to the ceiling wall (28). The layers of cardboard are provided in the ceiling wall. The base and peripheral rim are formed as single portion from cardboard. An independent claim is included for a crate putting up machine.
