The invention relates to an imaging device (10) for generating an image of road markings, comprising a visible-light projector (23) capable of illuminating the roadway at an angle of 1.24º, a means (25) for measuring the illumination, means (22, 24) for acquiring brightness profiles (P1...P20), capable of acquiring brightness profiles at measurement locations consecutively illuminated by the projector, and a calculation means (40) capable of determining brightness profiles of retroreflected light from the acquired brightness profiles. The calculation means (40) are advantageously further capable of generating the image representing the markings from a plurality of brightness profiles acquired by the acquisition means. The invention also relates to a method implemented using said device.
