915,766. Bending glass sheets. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. Oct. 15, 1959 [Oct. 15, 1958], No. 35026/59. Class 56. A glass-bending mould comprises a central shaping portion 1 and movable end portions 4 and at each end a presser member 5 pivoted at 6 so that it applies pressure to the portion of the glass sheet A over the end portion 4, urging the sheet into engagement therewith and means, such as a cross member 9 engaging supports 8, for stopping the application of pressure when the distance between the presser member 5 and the end shaping portion 4 corresponds substantially to the thickness of the glass sheet A, so that the glass is not pinched between the member 5 and end portion 4. The presser member 5 is formed by rails overlying the rails of end section 4 and the member is pressed downwardly on to the glass A by a weight 7. So that there is no sliding of the glass over the end rails, the end portions 4 are each mounted by means of a crank-shaft 12 secured to the end portion 4 by its web 13 and rotatably mounted in bearings 10 adjustable by a threaded rod 11 and arranged below and in a vertical plane passing through the point of contact of the centre and end portion 4. The counterweights 14 for moving the end portions 4 upwardly are carried by rods 15 secured at their ends to the end portion 4 and, intermediate their ends, to the ends of the crank-shaft 12. An adjustable stop 17 on the end portion limits the upward travel by engagement with a plate 18 on web 13. |
