The system (1) has a signal generator (3) for generating electric excitation signals, and a signal processor (4) for processing measurement signals. A switch (7) is arranged between an output of an input stage (5) and an input of a signal conditioner (6). A controller (2) switches the switch to a state in which a signal at the output of the input stage is passed to the input of the signal conditioner, and another state in which the signal is not passed to the input of the signal conditioner. Dynamic range of the input of the conditioner is adapted to voltage deviation of measurement signals.
