PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared human body detector, having both a human-body detection function and a noncontact inputting function by means of a single pyroelectric infrared sensor. SOLUTION: The human body detector 1 includes the pyroelectric infrared sensor 10, an illuminance sensor 12, and a signal processing unit 20 for detecting whether there is a human exists and whether a noncontact operation input exists. The processing unit 20 includes a variable-gain amplifier 21 amplifying a detection signal output from the infrared sensor 10; a detector 23 allowing two modes to be adopted, a human body detection mode for detecting whether or not a human exists based on the detection signal output from the infrared sensor 10, and a noncontact input mode for detecting a noncontact operation input caused by the motion of a human body; and a switch 24 for switching the motion mode of the detector 23 from the detection mode to the input mode, by making the gain of the amplifier 21 lower than that in the event of the detection mode according to the detection signal output from the illuminance sensor 12, when brightness is determined as having lowered.
