Centrifugal tubes 32 having rims 33 are attached to the rotor 18 by engaging the ends of the tubes having the rims into slots 26 in the rotor or by engaging holders 31 for the tubes in the slots. The tubes which may be of plastics are enclosed by a bowl 17 within a casing 11. The casing has a cover 22 which is held open by engaging an end 23 with a groove 24. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the slots permit the tubes to take up the positions 42, 43 when the rotor is respectively stationary and rotating.
