889,263. Aluminous cements from slags. VIRGINIA-CARBOLINA CHEMICAL CORPORATION. July 19, 1960 [Jan. 6, 1960], No. 25115/60. Class 22. An aluminous cement composition consists of a slag composition and from 0À04% to 1À5% of an additive based on the weight of the slag, which may be the by-product from the production of phosphorus by reducing a mixture of phosphate rock (100 parts), bauxite (64 parts) and coke (19 parts) in an electric furnace. The slag composition comprises the following by weight:- Al 2 O 3 , S 1 O 2 and CaO (exclusive of the amount of CaO chemically equivalent to any P 2 O 5 , F and TiO 2 present) at least 80%, with F 2 to 4% TiO 2 up to 3À5%, P 2 O 5 up to 7% MgO up to 2%, Fe, S and Zr up to 1%, the total of all constitutents other than Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 and CaO (but including the CaO in any Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 , CaF 2 and CaTiO 3 ) not exceeding 20%, the compensated slag composition with respect to the Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 and CaO (exclusive of the equivalent CaO as above) containing 45À0-64À5% Al 2 O 3 , 35À5-45À0% CaO and 0À10% SiO 2 , and falling within the area ABCD of Fig. 2. The additive comprises at least one of the following substances : sugars such as sucrose, watersoluble inorganic salts such as MgSO 4 .7H 2 O, dispersing agents such as calcium lignin sulphonate with Na 2 CO 3 , sequestering agents such as Na PO 3 , or chelating agents such as tetrasodium ethylene diamine tetra-acetate ; e.g. the additive may be a mixture of 7À7% sucrose, 15À4% lime (Ca(OH) 2 or gypsum, and 76À9% silica or calcium silicate slag. Water is added to the cement composition in the ratio of 0À5 or less. Specification 747,016 is referred to.
