[Also in Division F2] A motor vehicle having a spring suspension is provided with a levelling valve 174 fixed to the axle 182 of the vehicle and actuated by a lever 188 connected to a piston 180 of a cylinder 178 fixed to the vehicle frame 190. Source pressure in a pipe 184 is directed by the levelling valve through a choke 173 to the piston 180 and through a second choke 170 and an auxiliary reservoir 166 to a spring-biased piston 140 carrying, for purposes of adjustment, an exhaust valve seat 152 of a brake valve (see Division F2). The arrangement is such that increased vehicle loading bleeds the auxiliary reservoir through the levelling valve 174, hence allowing the exhaust valve seat to rise until the levelling valve is nulled by a corresponding rise of the piston 180. The exhaust valve seat is thus positioned in accordance with the vehicle loading. The seat may also be made manually adjustable.</p> |
