890,787. Forming cartons; casings for containers. VEREINIGTE KAPSELFABRIKEN NACKENHEIM G.m.b.H. March 14, 1958 [March 14, 1957; Sept. 11, 1957], No. 8264/58. Classes 18 and 66. The base of a cylindrical or frusto-conical container 2 is formed by indenting the portion 3 that is to form the base at one or more peripheral points 29 and forcing the portion towards the base plane by a die displaceable in the direction of the axis of the container. The container is mounted on a mandrel 1 and the die 11 is moved towards the mandrel by a cam, eccentric, or lever acting on the end of a shaft 7. The die carries one or more ribs 17 which form the indentations. The ribs may be interchangeable and have a sharpened edge. The ribs may engage slots in the die face or be articulated to hinge outwards on advance of the die, the die face then being used for stamping as well as for pressing the material down to the base plane. Pins 20 may be carried by the die to press holes in the base, the displaced material being bent inwards in the manner of a hollow rivet. An annular head may be formed at the junction of the base and side walls. A coloured foil may be pressed on to the base of the container. The base may be colour printed at the same time. The end of the mandrel may be faced with rubber. |
