A nut 1. for engagement by a bolt C for securing a plate B to a plate A is held in position on plate A prior to the bolting by means of cage 3 co-operating with a sleeve 2. The sleeve has a head or flange 21 on one side of the plate A and is engaged by teeth 32 of the cage 3 on the other side, which teeth bite into the sleeve to hold the assembly in position. The nut 1 is located in the cage by lugs 11 engaging in slots 34. Alternatively, the nut may be integral with the cage and interengaging ratchet teeth may be provided on the cage and sleeve to effect the securing thereof, the sleeve being axially slit to provide resilience. An upturned lug 36 on the cage prevents its rotation.
