Class 146(1) A loose leaf binding unit comprises two retaining bars which contact the covers of the book to which the unit is to be applied and each of the retaining bars has at least one projecting pin, one of which pins passes through aligned holes in the sheets to be filed when assembled and the other of which telescopically engages the first pin, a locking screw or bolt being provided which is mounted in the side of one of the pins so as to engage the other pin and lock the two retaining bars in position when screwed home and allow the bars to be drawn apart when loosened. As shown the bar 2 carries tubular pins 4a, 4b, 4c which pass through perforations in the sheets. Pins 3a, 3b, 3c on the bar 1 are inserted in the bores of the pins 4a, 4b, 4c so that the sheets are secured between the bars 1, 2 and distance pins 10, 11 on the bar 1 pass through further holes in the sheets to engage the bar 2. The parts are locked in this position by a screw 5 in the wall of the pin 4b which is tightened so as to grip the threaded or otherwise roughened surface of the pin 3b. A sleeve 6 encloses the pin 4b and has a slot 7 which engages an unthreaded portion of the screw 5 and prevents the screw from being screwed completely out of the pin. The centre holes of the sheets to be filed are slotted out to the edges of the sheets so as to allow access to the screw 5. |
