The method involves removing adhesives exiting from a bonding slit during a setting process while removing excess adhesives of an edge strip from edge regions of a coated plate element. A substance is applied to the edge regions of the top and/or bottom of the plate element before the setting process of the adhesives to deactivate excess adhesive residue exiting from the bonding slit such that adhering bonding particles are not formed. The bonding particles are removed from the edge regions during removal of the edge strip. The substance consists of water-dispersed polymer fluid. An independent claim is also included for a substance for manufacturing a coated plate element.
