PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of raising user's convenience such that when printing medium which is shifted to be overlapped is sent forward, printing job is continued when image is formed satisfactory even if the printing job is continued, and printing job is stopped to eject the paper in the case other than the above, relieving opportunity for printing job to be stopped vainly. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a medium thickness detecting means for detecting medium thickness of the printing medium on a conveying path; a medium thickness variation computing means for computing a variation of medium thickness detected by the medium thickness detecting means; and an overlapping feed determining means for determining whether overlapping feed of printing medium occurs on the basis of the variation of medium thickness computed by the medium thickness variation computing means. The image forming apparatus is characterized by making forming of printed image with the image forming means continue even when overlapping feed of printing medium occurs where a variation of medium thickness is below a predetermined value.
