Embodiments provide for a positioning device (100, 200) comprising a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiving unit (110), a communication antenna (130) and a communication module (120). The GNSS receiving unit is adapted to receive satellite information (185). The communication antenna (130) allows for reception and/or transmission of complementary data (195). The communication module (120) is connectable to the GNSS receiving unit (110) and the communication antenna (130). The communication module (120) is configured to provide complementary data (195) received at the communication antenna (130) to the GNSS receiving unit (110) and/or to provide complementary data (195) generated at the GNSS receiving unit (110) to the communication antenna (130). The communication module (120) is detachable or switchable for adaptation to an available communication technology.
