A method is devoted to transmitting synchronization packets between master (HM) and slave (HE) clocks of a packet-switched network supporting an Ethernet protocol within their interfaces, each associated with a measurement module (MM) serving as a support for an IEEE 1588V2 timestamp protocol, and connected to one another via a network path defined by a routing protocol or a label-switch protocol, in order to transmit synchronization packets over the network. This method comprises the following steps:
i) inserting within a synchronization packet that must be transmitted from one of the master (HM) and slave (HE) clocks, known as a source clock, to the other master (HM) or slave (HE) clock, known as the destination clock, information representative of at least part of the network path defined with respect to the routing protocol or label-switch protocol, and
ii) encapsulating on Ethernet the synchronization packet that received an insertion, then transmitting that encapsulated packet in a link-by-link mode to the destination clock. |
