An appetite-suppressant composition comprises an ileal brake activator and dietary fibre. The ileal brake activator helps to suppress appetite and is preferably in the form of an oil-in-water emulsion of a triglyceride-containing oil. The oil-in-water emulsion may contain a galactolipid emulsifier comprising fractionated oat oil. In one embodiment the ileal brake activator comprises 50-80% dehydrated corn syrup, 25-40% palm oil, 15-35% oat oil, up to 5% water and up to 10% silicon dioxide. Preferably the dietary fibre comprises a water soluble polysaccharide, in particular konjac glucomannan. The appetite suppressant composition may be incorporated into a drink, soup, dessert, ready meal, cereal bar or porridge, or may be supplied as a pharmaceutical composition. |
