A method for searching for data in a portable terminal is provided to increase the convenience of users by searching for specific data with minimum key operation among a plurality of data stored in a portable terminal and minimizing the time required to search for the specific data. In message view mode, a portable terminal displays a message list through a display part(S200,S210). If the user selects a simple search menu item(S220), the portable terminal highlights the first message or provides information about the first message to the user by voice so that the first message can be directly selected. In case a selection signal for the first message is not inputted until a preset time passes, the portable terminal highlights the second message or provides information about the second message to the user by voice(S230). If the user inputs a Confirm key to select a specific message while the potable terminal is visually or audibly providing information about each message(S240), the portable terminal displays the detailed contents of the selected message on the display part(S250). |
