A Video display apparatus and a method thereof are provided to enhance contrast ratio by detecting the motion of a video image and increasing the contrast difference of a moving object and a fixed background. A video signal input unit(100) inputs an analog video signal, and an A/D converter(110) converts an analog image signal inputted from the video signal input unit into a digital signal. A digital signal processor(120) processes the digital signal converted from the A/D converter. A motion detector(130) determines a boundary portion of a video image by classifying pixel regions and detects the motion of the video image by analyzing the amount of pixel motion at the boundary portion. A contrast enhancer(140) enhances the contrast ration about the detected motion image. A video output unit(150) displays the processed image on a screen. |
