PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device capable of saving the trouble of a user, while suppressing increase in abnormalities occurring while carrying a sheet, and to provide an image reader.SOLUTION: A sheet carrying device includes a sheet carrying section for carrying a sheet, a discharge section for discharging a sheet carried by the sheet carrying section, a first acceptance section accepting a stop instruction for stopping the driving of the sheet carrying section from a user, and a control section. The control section performs a determination processing for determining whether or not an abnormality incident to the driving occurs when a stop instruction is accepted by the first acceptance section, and performs drive stop processing for stopping the driving before a sheet is discharged from the discharge section when a determination is made that an abnormality occurs, otherwise stopping the driving after a sheet is discharged from the discharge section. |
