PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface emitting laser element which can improve yield.SOLUTION: A surface emitting laser element 100 comprises: a substrate 101; a first reflecting mirror 103 stacked on the substrate 101; a mesa formed by etching a laminate including an active layer 105 stacked on the first reflecting mirror 103, a second reflecting mirror 107 which is stacked on the active layer 105 and includes a plurality of semiconductor layers, and a contact layer 109 stacked on the second reflecting mirror 107; and metal wiring 110 formed along a top face and a lateral face of the mesa, for supplying a current to the active layer. One semiconductor layer among the plurality of semiconductor layers of the second reflecting mirror 107, which lies immediately below the contact layer 109 has an etching selectivity smaller than that of each semiconductor layer other than the one semiconductor layer. |
