A centrifugal pump comprises wedge-shape vanes which are mounted in channels in the impeller and move outwards under cen- - trifugal force to form a seal with the pump casing. Vanes C, which may be of polytetrafluoroethylene to give low frictional resistance or nylon or other suitable material, are positioned in slots a which may be formed by walls a1 welded to ribs a2 cast or otherwise formed on the impeller A. The vanes C slide outwards under centrifugal force to take up wear and make sealing engagement with the walls b of the casing B. Polytetrafluoroethylene shaft packing d1 may be provided. |
