PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radioactive substance processing system and processing method that can deal with, and make it easy to handle a processing object mixed with a radioactive substance insoluble in water or a processing object high in concentration of the radioactive substance.SOLUTION: The radioactive substance processing system 10 is configured to comprise: a melting furnace 14 for heating a processing object 12 having a radioactive substance including at least one radioactive nuclide ofCs,Cs andSr mixed at more than 1300°C, melting the processing object and removing the radioactive substance by volatilization into an off-gass; a fume cleaning unit 18 for separating the radioactive substance included in the off-gass to fume cleaning water 16 from the off-gass by cleaning the off-gass discharged from the melting furnace 14 with the fume cleaning water 16; and a radioactive substance recovery unit 20 for recovering the radioactive substance from the fume cleaning water 16.
