Proxy cache located between the web server and the base station in a wireless communications system and for communicating with a portable terminal through the base station analyzes a web page according to a web service request when the web service request for the portable terminal is received; receives at least one embedded object included in the web page from the web server based on the analysis result; sets a discontinuous reception (DRX) period for the portable terminal based on the size of the embedded object; transmits information for the set DRX period to the portable terminal; and transmits web service response including the embedded object to the portable terminal in a point in which the set DRX period is terminated.
