PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fire of a sodium-sulfur battery occurring in a module battery container from escalating into a chan reaction by reliably extinguishing the fire.SOLUTION: The electric power storage system comprises a plurality of module batteries 18 each of which is formed by storing a plurality of sodium-sulfur batteries 30 in an insulating container constituted of an insulation box 24 and an insulation lid 26, and stores the electric power in the module batteries 18 to be used. A smoking-fire extinguishing device 40 comprises: a device body 42 disposed on an outer lateral face of the insulation lid 26 of the module batteries 18; and a jet head installed therefrom via a jet tube 44 and an elbow 45 into the insulation container. When detecting a fire due to abnormality of the sodium-sulfur batteries 30, the smoking-fire extinguishing device ignites and burns a solid extinguishant in the device body 42 to generate fire-extinguishing aerosol, jets out the fire-extinguishing aerosol to the inside of the insulating container of the module batteries 18 to extinguish or suppress the fire. |
